The Medical School Application Process

The AspiringDocs Applicant Workshop provides pre-med college students an overview of the medical school application and admission process as they begin preparing to apply. This includes a basic understanding of the core application steps: requesting letters of recommendation, writing your personal statement, the interview process, and secondary applications. This workshop is recom-mended for pre-med students in the year before applying to medical school.

Self-Tutorial Module

The Self-Tutorial is not a substitute for attending the workshop. In the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to speak with experts about the application process, ask questions, and learn from the experience of other participants.

Who Should Attend?

  • “First-time applicants” or “re-applicants” to medical school
  • This workshop is especially geared to meeting the needs of students who are characterized by one or more of the following:
    • First in their family to attend college (parents and/or siblings)
    • First in their family to pursue a career in medicine (extended family)
    • From an ethnic minority group which is underrepresented in medicine
    • From a rural or urban medically underserved community
    • Educationally or economically disadvantaged

How Long is the Workshop?

  • Usually around 1 hour and 30 minutes.
  • How Often is the Workshop Held?

    • AspiringDocs Applicant Workshops are usually offered during the Fall and Spring semesters.
    • This workshop is currently offered only at the University of Arizona campus in Tucson. Non-UA students are welcome to attend.
