What does it take to get promoted and receive tenure in the College of Medicine at the University of Arizona?
Dealing with this question is the source of great of anxiety. This ‘manual’ with its irreverent title is a sincere effort to reduce some of the confusion that fosters this anxiety. This is NOT an ‘official white paper’ on the P&T process. Indeed, the college P&T Committee has not endorsed this document, although the ‘unofficial’ opinions of its members were sought concerning interpretation of many of the issues addressed here. Instead, this is the result of many interpretive discussions of the Dean’s FIXIT Committee. It is intended principally for junior faculty looking toward promotion from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor (if you get over this hurdle, the thought is that you’ll be around long enough to become sufficiently streetwise to deal with the issues associated with the jump to Full Professor).
