Printer-friendly versionMed-Start is a five-week summer academic enrichment and health career exploration program for high school rising seniors. Students take college courses, live on campus, and participate in health career lectures, demonstrations, and interactive tours and presentations. This program is held in both Tucson and Phoenix. Various partners provide major funding and/or activities, e.g. the AZ AHECs, INMED Program, UA departments and colleges, St. Joseph’s Hospital (Phoenix), Arizona State University, and Mesa Community College. Med-Start was established in 1969.

Who Should Attend?
- Arizona High School Juniors that have an interest in a health career
- Med-Start encourages students to apply if they are from any of the following:
- First in their family to attend college (parents and/or sibling)
- First in their family to pursue a career in any of the health professions
- From and ethnic minority group that is underrepresented in the health professions
- From a rural or urban medically underserved community
- Educationally or economically disadvantaged
How Long is the Program?
- 5 Weeks beginning in mid-June through mid-July
How often is the program held?
- Med-Start is only offered once per year during the summer
Requirements to Attend:
- Participants must be enrolled as a Junior in an Arizona High School
- Participants must be Arizona Residents
- Participants must have U.S. citizenship or legal residency
Cost:
- $2100 – Financial Aid is available to those that qualify
